Cadeira: A Chair that Celebrates the Diversity of Fine Woods

A Unique Collection of 34 Wooden Species

For over 35 years, Alvaro Wolmer has been collecting fine Brazilian woods and exquisite specimens from around the world. His passion for mixing different woods, colors, and textures in his projects led him to realize that many people are not familiar with the names of various wooden species. This realization became the driving force behind the design of Cadeira.

Cadeira is not just a chair; it is a collection of samples that showcases the beauty and uniqueness of 34 wooden species. Each wood has been carefully selected and engraved with its common and scientific name, turning the chair into an educational and conversational piece. As people sit on Cadeira, they can read the names and engage in discussions about the different woods, evoking fond memories and sparking curiosity.

The realization of Cadeira involves the expertise of Alvaro Wolmer's woodworking shop, Alvaro Wolmer Movelaria Fina Ltda, where two master woodworkers, Daniel Alberto Lavaroni and José de Deus Rocha, meticulously craft each chair. Using traditional woodworking techniques and modern tools like a CNC router for engraving, the production process takes approximately 140 hours per chair.

With dimensions of 82 cm in height, 60 cm in width, and 60 cm in depth, Cadeira offers both comfort and elegance. It comes packaged in a plywood crate measuring 85 cm in height, 64 cm in width, and 64 cm in depth, ensuring its safe transportation and delivery.

Cadeira has garnered recognition for its innovative design and celebration of fine woods. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills while contributing to quality of life improvements.
